Daisy....All Grown Up

Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Okay, maybe not all grown up, but at close to twenty pounds, she's sure getting there!

Just "kiddin" around....:):)

Dad and David put an old railroad tie in the goat corral for Pearl and Daisy to play on. Although Pearl seems somewhat disinterested in it, Daisy has a great time jumping on it!

And now.......
I have had a comment from a certain reader that she's noticed all my recipes I've shared on my blog so far have been chocolate. Yes, I admit it, I LOVE chocolate! But I'll share one now that is not ooey-gooey-crunchy-chewy-chocolate.
For Mrs. Beth of Arizona,
Golden Baked Chicken
(Sorry folks, no pictures today!!)
1 chicken, cut up and skin removed
2 C. mashed potato flakes
3/4 C. grated Parmesan Cheese
garlic salt to taste
seasoned salt to taste
1 C. butter, melted (we use milk)
In a bowl, mix potato flakes and seasonings. Dip chicken into butter, then into dry mixture to coat. Place into a greased 9x13 baking dish.
Bake, uncovered, at 375* for 60 - 75 minutes.
This recipe has to be one of my favorites!!! It is soooooooo good.

True Beauty

Thursday, April 16, 2009

The following quote from Daughters of Destiny by Noelle Wheeler is one of my favorites and one I should read often. It is such a good reminder of what true beauty is!

"Beauty and style are not the surest passports to womanhood - some of the noblest examples of womanhood in the world, have looked quite plain in outward appearance. A woman's worth is to be estimated by the real goodness of her heart, the greatness of her soul, and the purity and sweetness of her character; and a woman with a kindly disposition and well-balanced temper, is both lovely and attractive, even if her face is plain and her figure imperfect; she makes the best of wives and the truest of mothers. She has a higher purpose in living than the beautiful, yet vain and supercilious woman, who has no higher ambition than to flaunt her finery on the street, or to gratify her inordinate vanity by extracting flatter and praise from society, whose compliments are as hollow as they are insincere.

".....Outward beauty is shallow - only skin-deep; fleeting-only reigning fro a season. But inward beauty will last forever. If you desire to be admired and beloved, be an example of beautiful womanhood and cultivate the virtues of the heart. ....Seek then, fair daughters, the possesion of the inward grace, whose essence shall fragrance and vitalize the affections, adorn the countenance, make sweet the voice, and impart a hallowed beauty throughout your very being."

"Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies...."
Proverbs 31: 10

Pearl's New Baby

Sunday, April 5, 2009

Finally! Pearl had her baby thismorning! Hooray!!

This is Daisy, just a few hours old.

I am so tired right now - I've been up since 5:40 thismorning, coming outside and checking on Pearl. She started having some pretty good contractions around 8 or 9 o'clock thismorning, and finally gave birth at 11:30 to a beautiful baby girl! We were surprised that there was only one kid, as Pearl looked large enough for about three. :) But we are so grateful that (1) the whole thing went very smoothly and totally normal, and (2) that it is a girl!

Getting cleaned up. Pearl did such a magnificent job throughout the entire birth, and hardly let out more than a grunt except for the last push or two! Good job, Pearl!!

Having a snack.............for a while Daisy wouldn't nurse, but just an hour or two ago, she finally learned. We were quite relieved!

Awwwwwww...........!

Daisy is such an active little goat and, although still very wobbly on her legs, is learning how to get around.

As cute as this all looks, behind the scenes were three very nervous girls - only Courtney, Mom, and I were present for the birth, as Dad and the boys went to a neighbor's house to help out with some work. It was a nerv-racking experience! But it was also amazing, and a true testimony to how marvelous God's creation is.

"Bedtime, dear.....come along!"

Vote.......On Goat Names!

Thursday, April 2, 2009

So....what does everyone think we should name our baby goats? No, they haven't been born yet, but now's your time to vote on name choices. Since twins (boy and girl) seem to be most common, that's what the names we've picked are based upon. The poll is on the right - just click on the answer you think is best!

Pearl: "It's so hard to decide......choosing names stresses me out. Hmm?
What was that about hard labor? Should I be expecting something?"
