We're normal, too.

Monday, May 3, 2010

I just wanted to post and let all you dear readers know that behind this fancy blog and great pictures.....we're just a normal family.

My siblings and I aren't perfect, and we argue sometimes. And although it may look to some like we have the "perfect" family ~ we don't. We're a normal family.
And although it may seem to you from all these perfect pictures I've posted of Isaac recently, that he's a constantly smiling child, don't be fooled. He's not photo-genic. If he happens to smile when the camera flashes, it's because I'm singing the "Itsy-Bitsy Spider".....again. :)

We're normal people, everyone - (and from the pictures it looks like we go through alot of Angel Soft toilet paper.) Ahem.

We change dirty diapers, we clean up crusty dishes from several days ago, we have messy bathrooms, we have rasins and cheerios crunched on our kitchen floor, the list could go on....

We have hard days, sometimes. If you were to walk into our house right now, you'd find the ironing pile stacked two feet high (an all-time low) and a piece of cheese ground into the carpet.

But that's okay. Whose house looks like a palace every day anyway? (Especially if you have seven people living in it?) Now, that's not to say that we live in a dump - our goal is to go to bed each evening with the kitchen clean and the house tidy. And we do suceed sometimes!
But even if that doesn't happen, that's okay. Family is more important than living in a mansion. When I'm in the middle of washing dishes, and Isaac declares "Upma!" (his word for pick me up), that is the time to stop and share a priceless moment with him!
We love each other. And often have great times together.
Everyone has a sink of dirty dishes ~ we're all the same! There is no "perfect" family. In Christ, we are all on the road to sanctification; we all have our work cut out for us!
Go before God each day and ask Him for help. If you're feeling swamped, remember Elizabeth Elliot's famous phrase, "Do the next thing." Just take it one day at a time.
And....please comment and tell me what life is like at your house, okay?

Hello Rachel!
Yeah, if you were to come to our house, is sure wouldn't be perfect either, but to me,a messy home shows life; That we are a family that enjoys each other and our surroundings. Of course we should try to keep it kept up and neat, but there is a balance. You can't stay a perfectionist and expect to have kids around all the time. The house won't always be neat and tidy, but it should abound with joy and life!
God Bless Rachel. Great post.

This is such a wonderful post, Rachel! I loved reading it. Your family sounds a lot like ours... except we're way past the diaper stage. ;-) But you know, we have those days where there are still dirty dishes in the sink... where laundry sits in the drier overnight. That's just life though. And life happens. :-) Great post.

~ Love,
Lindsay

What a wonderful post, Rachel!
Our house is never perfect either! We try our best to keep it tidy, although it's not always like that! I feel beyond blessed to have the home I have now, so I have no reason to complain if there's toys on the floor, or dished needing to be done, or a juice spill on the floor! That's my life, and I am happily fulfilled! :)
My little sister is potty trained, which is wonderful. She is also learning to pick up after herself... A wonderful thing, that's for sure!
Thank you again for sharing, Rachel. Also, thank you for all the sweet comments you leave me on my blog. They always encourage me!

Your Sister In Christ,
Jenna

Thanks for being so honest!

I know we are NOT a perfect family! At the moment the living room is a complete reck from some little people's toys. ;) In our house we struggle with our tempers at a constant bases. Yes if our beloved grandma wasn't so kind to be in charge of ironing we would have a huge stack. ;)
You should see how disgusting our little vacuum sweeper gets when we empty it. YUCK! (And we vacuum every night!)

Our list could surely go on. But then we think at how life would not be half so exciting if our lives were not filled with " Leah when your done with that could you set the table?" or " Could you straighten the living room?" or " Could you help me get your brothers to bed?"

Every family has their struggles. But there are so many wonderful moments that I love about family. Moments to just sit and chat before bed with our parents.
Mishaps that in the end make every one laugh. And yes even having to clean up huge messes that little ones make. Sam has unrolled all the toilet paper, (twice!) and put it all IN the toilet!

Yes so true! Family is so much more important than, new furniture or maids that come in and clean for you.

Thanks again for being so honest!

Blessings,

Leah

That cracks me up. :) Yeah my family and I can so relate to the washing crusty dishes from several days ago. :D We just recently did loads and mounds and huge piles of laundry so I can't say there's any of that on our laundry room floor. =D
Yeah, my family is definitely not your clean family, but we're in it together and Christ is the Head of the house so we're all happy. Like your family seems to be!
