My license ~ at long last

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

I finally got my driver's license last Friday!  I've had my permit for about a year and half, so I've had some good time to practice and get all my required driving hours in.

I was in absolute disbelief when my examiner said that I actually passed

Me, pass?  Really?  Like, the first time?

This is the girl who flunked her permit test on the first try and went away feeling like one huge idiot.  (But felt better after her younger brother did the same thing a few months later.)

This is the girl who had a really hard time memorizing which peddle was the gas peddle at first.  I'm the one who, when extrememly nervous, overlooks the obvious and makes the simple very complicated.   Who finds that merging onto an interstate in rush hour traffic is akin to waking up in a cold sweat after a very bad nightmare.

And yet, I passed.

It was interesting because before going in to take the road test, Dad asked if I knew how to parallel park.  My chipper reply was, "Of course not - but Mom said they probably wouldn't ask me to do that, so it really doesn't matter!"

In typical Dad-fashion, we spent the next hour learning how to parallel park.

Lo and behold, the very first thing my examiner wanted me to do was to parallel park.

Go figure.  (Thank you DAD!!)

So, I passed; I now have a full-fledged driver's license.

As a point of interest, the night before taking my test I looked up on Google "how to prepare for a drivers test".  One guy suggested hitting the pub ahead of time to relax a little.

I didn't take that advice. :-)

Yeah! Congratulations!

I am hoping to get mine soon, too. And don't worry. I actually failed the learner's permit test the first time, too!

Blessings,

Hi Rachel, Congratulations on passing your driver's license test! My son just got his license also after having his permit for about a year. Two thumbs up on your mastering parallel parking. California does not test on that anymore..who knows why? Hope you enjoy your time behind the wheel!Have a blessed day...Teresa

Hi, Rachel. You sound just like me (only I don't have my license yet) :-) I flunked my first permit test (and believe me...I wasn't too happy!), and sometimes make things more complicated than they are. My dad doesn't understand why I can't steer smoothly, and have to jerk the wheel (hehehe).

Have fun driving. Can't WAIT to get my licenes!!!

Oh, and about the 'your dad taking your out to paralell park against your will?'

I can totally relate. My dad is SO like that :-D

And I had trouble with the pedals too...so don't worry. You're not the only one who gets nervous behind-the-wheel :-)
